Garden Compost

Compost plays a vital role in ensuring that your garden reaches its full potential. It plays a number of roles:

  • Compost provides a fibrous material for delicate plant roots to grow through, allowing them to establish a firm hold on the ground.
  • Essential plant nutrients are stored on the surface of the particles of the compost, which become available to the roots of your plants as soon as you water them. These nutrients encourage ideal growth.
  • Good compost stores the right amount of water for the plant roots, whilst the excess is allowed to drain away.

Although a wide range of garden composts may be bought, including 'reduced peat' or 'peat-free' versions, you may decide to recycle your kitchen and garden waste to make your own compost.
