Woodlice

The woodlouse (also known as slater or pill bug) has a 1 cm grey or brown hard, segmented body, which it often rolls up into a ball when disturbed. They live in damp places and feed mainly on decaying vegetation, although they may sometimes attack seedlings and other soft growth, including strawberries. They feed at night and hide away out of sight in dark shelters during the day.

Control

Woodlice should usually be simply caught and removed; however, in severe cases HCH dust may be used to protect vulnerable seedlings.
