Capsid Bugs

Capsid bugs are elongated shield-shaped winged insects, active in spring and summer. They suck sap from shoot tips, leaving behind their toxic saliva, which kills plant tissues. This can distort buds and make holes in new leaves in shrubs and perennials - especially chrysanthemums, fuchsias and hydrangeas.

Control

If caspid bugs are a consistent problem, spray with dimethoate or permethrin. Prevent infestations by making sure that all plant debris is cleared away in winter.
